It has been a particularly busy time for the product management and development team at Zutec, as we’ve been gearing up for Release 117 of our platform. This is one I’m particularly excited about, as we’re releasing our new Form Builder. “Why?” you may say. “It’s a revamp, not a shiny new feature like ‘Raise Linked Issue’ or ‘per photo GPS co-ordinates for Regulation 40’,” (Ok, you might not say that exactly!). With the later updates being the topic for a future post.
I like the new Form Builder because it highlights a huge priority for our roadmap going forwards – user experience. Having worked in a lot of industries and coming into construction last year, I can see that the quote “Construction is the least digitised industry with the greatest need for digitisation” is true. But something the industry is only just coming to realise is that digitisation isn’t just taking existing function and putting it on a computer – it’s also a chance to make every single user’s experience and day-to-day work better. More streamlined. More intuitive. More fun! And that’s what we want to do at Zutec.
Our previous Form Builder is an incredibly powerful piece of function, allowing you to replicate any paper form including pages and signatures, or create a whole new digital checklist from scratch. But we have had feedback that it can be hard to use for our customers. We’ve also heard it needs to be more accessible, especially given a lot of our users are not familiar with software in general.
The new Form Builder is so important to me because it illustrates three principles of Product Management that we look to embody:
The new Form Builder gives us a chance to improve this and is the pre-cursor to a whole raft of user experience improvements we’re planning over the next year.
And as a final note, we’re expecting this to be an iterative process. Yes, we’ve listened and made changes, but our customers will always have more to say and we will want to continue to improve their experience in the system based on their feedback. Any product is more powerful with an engaged and constructive user base, so why not give it a go and if you have any feedback, please let us know either via your Customer Success Manager, or through requesting a new feature at our Support Portal.
Thanks for reading, and please tell us what you think!
